Happy Movember 1! Hopefully by now you have shaved your upper lip for the last time. Your progress will be checked at the November general meeting and we’re looking forward to some great pictures on December 4! We have a “KC799” team at Movember.com and we are also doing our own fundraising at the Council to support the Diocese of Dallas Priest Retirement Fund as part our commitment to men’s health.

If you haven’t heard of Movember before, the basic idea is that men grow a mustache (also referred to as “stache” or “Mo”) as a way to start a public conversation about men’s health. People tend to notice facial hair and ask about it. That’s when we take a minute to say something like: “actually I’m growing it to promote men’s health issues. as men we tend to ignore our health a bit. I trust/hope that you are current on your exams. If not, I’d encourage you to be proactive. also, if you have a chance, donate to a men’s health cause”. To highlight the importance of what this program, take a look at these statistics:
• 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime
• This year 242,000 new cases of prostate cancer will be diagnosed
• This year 8,290 men will be diagnosed with testicular cancer
