Today I learned that Brother James Savidge, age 78, passed away on December 11. Brother James Savidge was an honorary life member of our Council, having joined the Order in 1968. Please pray for the repose of his soul, and for his family, including wife Patricia.

Services will be held at 10:00 am on December 30, 2014 at St. Pius X. There will be a rosary and mass, followed by a reception at the parish center.

The KC Hall will host a special visitation and rosary on Thursday, 11/13/2014 @ 6:30 PM.  10110 Shoreview Dr., Dalllas Texas 75238. A reception to follow the rosary…

The remains of SK Al Barbosa will be in the KC Hall for the visitation and rosary on Thursday.  Out of respect and reverance, the Bar will be closed during the rosary, and will resume service after the rosary has concluded.

There will be a Funeral Mass, Friday 11/14/2014 @ 10:30 AM, to be held at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, 2800 Valwood Pkwy, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234.  A brunch will follow.

 

Reminder about Memorial Mass tonight

We will also honor SK Al Barbosa tonight among the 23 great men of our Council who have pass away in the last year.  We encourage you to attend the Memorial Mass and Service tonight at St. Patrick’s Church, starting at 6:30pm with reception at KC Hall following the service.

In Memory of SK Al Barbosa

With a heavy heart, I pass along the news that SK Al Barbosa passed away yesterday evening.  He was at his home and with family when he passed.

He was an Honorary Life Member of the Council. He first joined the Order in 1953 and a Member of our Order for 61 years.  SK Al Barbosa was also an active 4th Degree Sir Knight and member of the Color Corps.  Some may also remember him well for his reminders about the Montserrat retreats.  SK Barbosa will truly be missed by so many Knights.

Please pray for the repose of his soul, may he rest in peace.

More information about services are pending.  Expected to be Sparkman Crane on Garland Road later this week.

 

In Memory of Jimmy Schnurr

SK James R. “Jimmy” Schnurr: July 13, 1971 – September 18, 2014

It is with regret we pass along news of the death of SK Jimmy Schnurr after a two-year fight with pancreatic cancer. Jimmy was a Council 799 member, as well as a Fourth Degree member of the Fr. Abram J. Ryan Assembly. He joined the Knights of Columbus in February 9, 2010; Exemplified to the Fourth Degree in August 24, 2013.

Please keep his wife Cari and sons Austin and Aidan in your prayers. St. Patrick ACTS brothers invites all who wish to gather at St. Patrick Church tonight Friday, the 19th at 8 pm for an hour of silent prayer.

The Funeral Mass will be at 7 PM on Monday September 22, 2014 at St. Patrick, 9643 Ferndale Rd. Dallas Texas 75238. Reception will be held at the KayCee Hall (10110 Shoreview Rd, Dallas Texas 75238), immediately following the Funeral mass.

In Memory of Cardy Vance

Cardy Vance passed peacefully in his sleep last night. Arrangements are pending. Cardy Vance is one of the all-time legends of Council 799. Please pray for the repose of his soul and comfort for his family.

In Memory of Cardy Vance. A Rosary will be held 7:00 PM, Wednesday, July 23. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Thursday, July 24 at 10:00 AM. Both at St. Thomas.

Carl William “Cardy” Carl William “Cardy” Vance was born February 9, 1937 and passed away July 19, 2014. He was born in Dallas and lived majority of his life in the Lakewood and East Dallas areas. He attended St. Edward’s School, Jesuit High School, and Southern Methodist University. While still attending SMU he began working with Jerry Lane and Dan Gorman, forming a business partnership and friendship that would surpass 50 years. Carl was a CPA devoted to his clients and took great pleasure in seeing their businesses thrive. Cardy was very active in Knights of Columbus Council 799 serving as Grand Night twice and known for serving at the Friday Night Fish Fries. If Cardy is remembered for one thing at the KC it was his passion for organizing the annual Sisters Appreciation Dinner now known as the Paul Bagley/Cardy Vance Sisters’ Appreciation Dinner. As his sons were growing up he coached football and T-ball and participated in Indian Guides for the YMCA. Cardy was also well known at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic church as a long time usher at 7:30 Mass. He was preceded in death by his father Rayburn Vance, his mother Rosalie Vance, his sister Mary Alice Maher, his brothers Ray and Mike Vance, and his son John Michael Vance. He is survived by his wife of more than 50 years Sandra Jean Vance and their sons and Jeffrey, Joseph, Andrew, and Patrick. He is also survived by his brother Jodie, sister Sissy, grandchildren, great grandchil-dren, and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. A Rosary will be held 7:00 PM, Wednesday, July 23. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Thursday, July 24 at 10:00 AM. Both services will be at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 6306 Kenwood Ave, Dallas, Texas. A reception will follow the Memorial Mass at the Knights of Columbus 799 Hall, 10110 Shoreview Road. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Paul Bagley/Cardy Vance Sisters’ Appreciation Dinner care of Knight of Columbus Council 799 or the charity of your choice.

In Memory of Joe Collins

Brother Harry “Joe” Collins passed away last night or early this morning.  He was 85 years old.   He was a longtime Member of Council 799, having joined the order December 1, 1958.

Here are the funeral arrangements for Joe Collins. Rosary is Thursday at 7 pm at Sparkman Crane. Funeral is Friday at 10 am at St Thomas Aquinas.

In memory of SK Peter Goudreau

SK Peter Goudreau returned to the Lord last night. He was a long time Knight, having joined the Order in July 1953. He was also a Member of Father Abram J. Ryan Assembly.

Many of us know Pete Goudreau as a quiet, hard working member of the Council. He was quick to volunteer for Fish Fry’s. He was also active with St. Vincent de Paul Society and a faithful parishioner at Christ The King Parish.

No details have been provided regarding services.

In Memory of SK Raymond Baker

It is with regret I notify you of the passing of SK Ray Baker. He was a member of the Order for 61 years (joining December 1, 1952). He served as GK for Council 799 in 1961-62. He was also 4th Degree member of the Fr. Abram J. Ryan Assembly since April 1954 and participated in the Color Corps years ago.

Visitation is Friday, 12/6/2013, 6-8pm, Williams Funeral Home, Garland Rd (just north of Miller). Rosary is 7:30pm.

Lewis M. Duca
(1921 – 2013)
Lewis M. Duca 2 Timothy 4:7 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” This summarizes the life of Lewis Duca, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Lewis was born on June 7, 1921 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Pietro and Rosa Cortimilia Duca. He moved to Dallas when he was 3 years old and lived the rest of his life in Dallas. He is a graduate of Forest Avenue High School and attended Draughn’s Business College. After 43 years of faithful service, Lewis retired from Foster Wheeler (formerly Glitzsch, Inc.) as VP of Estimating. Lewis was a charter member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Throughout his life, Lewis was a faithful member and was involved in many of the parish events, most notably his involvement with the Boy Scouts of America. Lewis was proud to call himself a Scout and continued his service with the Boy Scouts even after his sons had graduated. Lewis was awarded the St. George Medal for Catholic Scouting and The Silver Beaver Award. Lewis was a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of columbus and loved leading the rosary for his fellow Knights. First and foremost in his life was his family. He taught us unconditional love through his constant love and support. His family now carries his love forward. Lewis is preceded in death by his parents, brother Salvador Duca and sister Marie Duca DiCarlo. Lewis is survived by his wife of 64 years, Aline Degelia Duca, son Most Rev. Michael G. Duca, Bishop of Shreveport, daughter Rosanne Duca Dworaczyk (Bill), son James G. Duca (Cindy), and daughter Irene Duca Casburn (Mark). He is also survived by the loves of his life, his grandchildren: Andrew, David, Laura, Rebecca, Matthew, Rachel (Sam), Hannah, Annie and Sarah. Affectionately known as GG, he is also survived by great-granddaughter Lucia. Lewis is survived by many nieces and nephews whom he loved. Lewis has joined his fellow Tuesday Night Prayer Group members. They are once again together, sitting around the table. Proud defender of his faith and his country. The family will receive friends at Sparkman/Crane Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, November 1, 2013. The Rosary will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 2, 2013, St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 6306 Kenwood Avenue @ Abrams Road, Dallas. The Funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Most Rev. Michael G. Duca – Celebrant, Rev. John Libone-Homilist.
