Southwest Liturgical Conference – Drivers needed
Posted by John Guerra Jr in Volunteer on December 27, 2011
The Southwest Liturgical Conference will celebrate its 50th Anniversary of the Study Week, January 24th-27th, 2012, at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Dallas, hosted by the Diocese of Dallas Liturgy Office.
Dallas was the first diocese to host the event in 1963, Liturgy: History and Reform and hosted again in 1984, and in 2005. In 2012, the Diocese of Dallas will once again have the honor and pleasure of hosting the monumental event.
Knights are needed as drivers to/from the airport and the hotel. Please volunteer no later than January 14, 2012 (to allow time to coordinate driver assignments). You can volunteer by emailing Marce Tebbe (mtebbe6020@att.net) or calling 972-742-5886(m). Attached is a letter with more information and a volunteer form.

On Saturday November 19 we will be participating in an event to help out the Sisters of hte Holy Family of the Nazereth convent in Grand Prarie. The event will consist of one group at the convent clearing trees and hauling them back into the property. The second group will be preparing lunch at the council hall and will transit that over to the convent for lunch.
The outdoor work at the convent will start around 8:30 and run till noon. Please be sure to wear gloves, work boots, and bring any power tools that cut if you have them. If its anything like last year, this is extremely rewarding. Directions to the facility can be found here: http://binged.it/vXEjl1
The second group will be meeting mid morning at the council hall to prepare food for the group. Around noon the group will be bringing the food out to the kitchen at the convent for lunch, which will formally be the conclustion of the event. I would expect to head out around 1.

Service Project
Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth
Posted by John Guerra Jr in Events, Volunteer on November 4, 2010
Brothers, the great 799 needs you!!!

When: Saturday, 13 November, 9AM – 3PM
What:
In response to the request of many brother Knights, brother Ryan Collier has initiated our first-ever Service Project. The sisters at the convent of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth are in dire need of our services. Though the work is not very difficult, it is grand in scale as their property encompasses an acreage located in Grand Prairie (directions below). Work will consist of cutting down tree branches and dead trees, hauling them to an on-site location, painting wooded benches and a metal railing, cleaning many windows (inside & out) and clearing hornet nests.
We’re calling on all brother knights. Also invited are the sons of any brother knights – older than 12 (who are responsible and hard workers).
We’re looking to recruit 40+ brothers. This would allow us 6-8 groups of 5 men to tackle projects simultaneously.
Be sure to wear work clothes (gloves, boots, goggles for chainsaw workers).
RSVP ASAP:
Ryan Collier – ryan.r.collier@gmail.com
Questions: call Ryan (214) 226-4423 or Benji (469) 831-5788
Tools:
Pick-up trucks (to haul tree branches), Drop cloths, paint rollers/brushes/pans, chain saws (on a pole would be ideal), goggles, work gloves
Where:
1814 Egyptian Way, Grand Prairie, 75050
(Beware of speed traps along 30 nearing NW Hwy exits!)
Mapquest Link – http://mapq.st/h/6-9vtYBYqN
(Note: on some maps, HW 161 still reads 19th St.)
Via Dallas – Upon exiting 30 onto 161 North, take your first Right onto Egyptian way @ Shamrock gas station (this’ll be on you before you know it), take an immediate Left into convent.
Optional:
8AM Mass @ their Church w/the sisters (location will be obvious once you’re there).

Knights Prepare Dinner at Ronald McDonald House
Posted by John Guerra Jr in Volunteer on October 4, 2010

KC799 cooked for approx. 70 people at the Ronald McDonald House on Saturday, Oct. 2. The crew consisted of Ed Hubbuch, Tom Dehmer, Scott Callagy, John Guerra, Victor Estrello, Chris & Cheryl Janning, and Andy Oostdyk.
The families were very happy with the meal that was prepared and said it was nice to have a home-cooked meal prepared by the Knights. KC799 is looking for additional volunteers to participate in the Ronald McDonald House “Meals that Heal” program. We have signed up for additional dates next year and looking forward to more participation in this charity in the future.
