In Memory Of Marty O’Donnell

Our Brother Knight Marty O’Donnell passed away on Monday, September 27, after an extended battle with cancer. Details concerning his services follow:

Rosary: St. Thomas Aquinas, 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 29, 2010.
Mass: St. Thomas Aquinas, 4:00 p.m., Thursday, September 30, 2010
Immediately following the Mass on Thursday, there will be a celebration of Marty’s life at Council 799.
Marty O'Donnell
Martin Francis O’Donnell, 72, of Dallas, Texas, passed away on Monday, September 27, 2010. He is survived by his loving and beautiful wife of 44 years, Kathleen, and his sister Moira Savage and brother Brian O’Donnell (Joan). He is also survived by his daughters Maureen O’Donnell of Dallas and Jane O’Donnell of San Diego, CA; his son, Steve O’Donnell (Alisha) of Dallas; two precious grandchildren, Dylan O’Donnell and Zoe O’Donnell; and a truly wonderful and loving extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Born and raised in Dallas, he made life-long friends at the schools he attended, including Holy Trinity Catholic School, Jesuit College Preparatory School, and Spring Hill College in Mobile, AL. He was an officer in the Navy and attended law school at SMU. He was an attorney by trade but preferred to spend most of his working hours on the golf course and could be found at Tenison a few days a week. A devout Catholic, he loved family, the Knights of Columbus and trips to Laughlin and the Del Mar race track. Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. on Wed., September 29, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 4:00p.m. on Thurs., September 30 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Jesuit College Preparatory School, Susan G. Komen for the Cure ® or to the Arthritis Foundation in memory of Martin’s daughter, Bridget O’Donnell.

Lebanese Food Festival – This weekend

Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Catholic Church in Lewisvill is a small, Catholic Community not yet associated with a Knights Council. The Pastor asked for 4 Knights to help set up, move things and clean-up. The shift is 11:00 to 7:00 PM. Two 4 hour shifts would be good. Volunteers can call David Holder at 214-869-6937.

Hike For Life – Still taking donations

If you were at the Knights Appreciation Party, you may have seen Richard Johnston go down the water slide with his dress clothes. His challenge that day raised $150 for the Hike For Life, and every bit helps. Currently we have raised over $8000 as the KC799 team, and the Dallas Hike For Life (White Rock Lake location) has raised over $17000. You donation can still be counted – so take a moment to make a small donation to support this fundraiser:

Oktoberfest! Oct 23rd

HIKE FOR LIFE – RAIN OR SHINE

Dallas Hike For Life – THIS SATURDAY

Edit: This Hike will go on – Rain or Shine!

As a reminder, please make an effort to contribute to the Hike For Life fundraiser, and participate in the walk this Saturday. This is a very worthy cause, going to benefit pregnancy crisis centers in our local community. The walk begins at 9 a.m. (registration at 8 a.m.) at the Big Thicket Park at White Rock Lake. After the walk, please join other participants for refreshments and fellowship. This is an open event, and very family friendly!

Soccer Challenge – Sept. 25 at 10 a.m.

Also this Saturday, KC799 will host our local Soccer Challenge tournament, open to all children ages 10-14. The tournament will start at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Church fields. Knights are needed to help coordinate the games and refreshments.

Octoberfest – Mark Your Calendar; Oct 23

This year, kids will be invited for a costume contest, and fun-and-games starting at 6:00 p.m. Pizza and snacks will be available. The Octoberfest party, with German food, live band, and beer will start at 7:00 p.m. Kids are free, adults are $12 per person (includes two beer tickets). This event is also open to the community – so invite your family and friends to mark their calendar as well! We still could use any items you are willing to donate that can be used for prizes.
